Early 20th French Wood Sign

Large French festive wooden sign. This sign originates from central France and was probably used as a mascot for the village of Lons-Le-Saunier during “intervillage” festive competitions. It carries its coat of arms in the centre and has slots in its upper section to probably accommodate flags that would have been awarded after winning an event! This Board has been dry scraped on both sides to reveal early 20th century paint showing lovely pastel colours.

A total of 5 boards are available each representing a different commune in the Jura department.

Provenance: France (Jura department)

Dimensions: W 230cm x D x H 80cm
